Venus Williams is 37 years old and in the final at Wimbledon. That’s only happened to one other woman in tennis history — and her name is Martina Navratilova. (This is one tennis accomplishment Serena Williams can’t possibly achieve any time soon — she’s only 35!) Venus joined the great Navratilova by downing Johanna Konta in straight sets (6-4, 6-2) to surge into a Wimbledon final where her sister isn’t, mercifully, waiting on the other side of the court. It was Venus’s 87th singles win at Wimbledon, a Grand Slam championship she has won five times.
Navratilova reached the Wimbledon Finals in 1994 at the age of 37. She lost to Conchita Martinez. Navratilova had last won Wimbledon in 1990. Venus Williams last won Wimbledon in 2008. Navratilova won 18 Grand Slam singles titles in all, with nine coming at the All England Club.
