There are a number of musical acts trying to avoid hearing the gong on the July 6 episode of The Gong Show. Guest judges comedian Dana Carvey (SNL, Wayne’s World) and TV couple Tracee Ellis Ross and Anthony Anderson of black-ish will be treated to performances by Nana the Cat Lady and Meshugga Beach Party.

Meshugga Beach Party claims to be the world’s premier Jewish surf music band. Dressed in black suits and hats, and wearing fake beards and prayer shawls, the five-person band from San Francisco is composed of: Treyf Bacon III (bass); Stuart “Brooklyn Beat” Brandt (drums); Karen “Shayna Maydele” Dobronyi (keyboards); Danny “Shecky Sheckels” Snyder (guitar), and “Meshugga” Mel Waldorf (guitar). Since Meshugga Beach Party has been around (since 2003!), they’ve released three albums: Songs of the Chosen Surfer (see above), Hot Rod Hanukkah and Let’s Go Shleppin’! P.S. Meshugga means “crazy” in Yiddish. The Gong Show airs Thursdays at 10pm on ABC.
