Simone Biles playing with Kevin Durant? Sounds wonderful, but it’s a scenario that exists only in the minds of Peyton Manning and the ESPYs writers who lobbed this easy frontrunner bomb at KD during the televised ceremony. “Our gymnastics team was so dominant that Kevin Durant told me he wants to play for them next year,” said host Manning. Laughter abounded while Durant remained stone-faced. But seriously, the Warriors won 73 games before they lured the former NBA MVP away from the OKC Thunder, so Durant got the joke. He just didn’t feel like laughing. You know who did, though?
Check out KD’s mom Wanda, whose smile always lights up the room. She wasn’t letting anything get in the way of her good time. Besides, Wanda probably believes her son really could help out the Olympic gymnasts! Durant’s mother was the chief subject of Durant’s exceptionally moving MVP acceptance speech. The speech was so inspiring that Queen Latifah produced a TV film about KD’s life called The Real MVP that featured Wanda’s strong character. (see link above) KD was likely just playing with his stoic face — he’s pretty happy with the way things have gone for him lately.
