The In an Instant episode “Home Invasion Horror” retells the horrifying story of the McConnell family who were held hostage in their Galion, Ohio home in November 2015. Two armed men, Taylor Crisman, 18, and Chris Hill, 23, kept local bank manager Brian McConnell, his wife Katie, and their two children Liam and Zoe, hostage while demanding that Brian go to the bank where he worked, empty the vault, and return the money to them at the house. Brian did what he was told to protect his family and returned with almost $200,000 in cash. When Hill and Crisman fled, the McConnells called 911 but according to the ABC press release “felt they were treated like suspects” when the police arrived and interrogated the family and conducted lie-detector tests. They were quickly cleared but it took one month for authorities to catch Crisman and Hill who both pleaded guilty.
After the home invasion, the McConnells were interviewed by Fox 8 Cleveland. Brian and Kate said they are both being treated for post traumatic stress disorder and that the couple is divorcing. Katie said, “These things can either bring you together or they can tear you apart and unfortunately, that’s what happened for us.” In an Instant airs Saturdays at 8pm on ABC.
