Secretary of State nominee Rex Tillerson is expected to be prepared — it’s in his DNA. From 2010-2012, Tillerson — in addition to running ExxonMobil — was also the 33rd President of the Boy Scouts of America. Along with NASA, ExxonMobil built partnerships with the Boy Scouts during Tillerson’s time to enhance programs in STEM curriculum — science, technology, engineering and math.
Under Tillerson’s watch, the Boy Scouts added a new Robotics merit badge in 2011, making a total of “31 life skills merit badges related to STEM that Scouts can earn,” according the 2011 Annual Report. That same year, Tillerson’s Boy Scouts introduced another new initiative called SCOUTStrong, promoting health “in mind, body, and spirit” for young people. The “Boy Scouts of America aligned with first lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move program to tackle the challenge of childhood obesity. The Boy Scouts of America also teamed with the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition (PCFSN) to engage, educate, and empower youth to adopt a healthy lifestyle that includes regular physical activity and good nutrition.”
