Judge Neil Gorsuch of Colorado is currently being touted as a potential Supreme Court nominee. President Trump is said to be considering Gorsuch for the seat left open by the death of conservative legal icon Antonin Scalia. Gorsuch once clerked for moderate Justice Anthony Kennedy, but his legal decisions fall more in line with those of the originalist Scalia. Gorsuch receives high marks from various conservative think thanks.

Trump, who ran as an outsider, may see a fellow outsider in Gorsach — merely because Gorsach is from the middle of the country, the part that catapulted Trump into office. Otherwise, Gorsuch is the possessor of tried-and-true establishment credentials. His mother (Ann Gorsuch Burford) headed up the EPA under Ronald Reagan and the Ivy Leaguer Gorsuch attended Columbia University before Harvard Law School. He capped it off with a doctorate from Oxford University in the UK. Outsiders are good for certain positions, but it’s hard to put one on the Supreme Court. Four of the current eight SCOTUS Justices are from Harvard Law School. Three went to Yale and one to Columbia.
