On an episode of Paranormal Lockdown, paranormal investigators Nick and Katrina visit the vacant Shrewsbury Prison in the Shropshire, England. The 223-year old prison, also known as The Dana, has been the site of at least 7 executions by hanging and several suicides. In 2005, Shrewsbury was considered one of the most overcrowded prisons in the country — 326 inmates in a prison designed for 178 men. The Ministry of Justice closed Shrewsbury in 2013 (with six other prisons) with the plan to build a 2,000-capacity super prison to replace the seven closing.
In 2014, the Shrewsbury Prison building and land was sold. In 2016, proposals to convert the building into dormitories/apartments for 200 students at the nearby, newly created University Centre Shrewsbury were received. Paranormal Lockdown airs Fridays at 8pm and 9pm on TLC.
