Filmmaker Michael Moore correctly predicted that Donald Trump had a very good chance to become president. A Bernie Sanders supporter whose support swung to Hillary Clinton in the general election, Moore — like many — wants to “get rid of the electoral college.” But first he wants the electors to do their job. Their job is to vote their “conscience” — to make a smart decision based on what is best for the United States.
Moore told MSNBC that it would be a courageous act for Republican electors to withhold their Trump votes when the electoral college votes on December 19. Moore says it’s obvious that the security of the nation is at risk, citing both Trump’s campaign call asking the Russians to hack Hillary Clinton and the fact that the President-elect is not attending daily national security briefings. Republican electors could “stand up” and save the country, Moore thinks. If they do, he believes they deserve an added chapter to John F. Kennedy’s famous book about American heroes: Profiles in Courage.
