Anyone who’s listened to the Howard Stern show for decades isn’t exactly shocked at the Donald Trump “revelations” being dug up now — as mainstream media finally gets around to listening to Stern. Yes, Trump talked crudely on Stern’s show, which is part of the compact most guests tacitly complied with, especially back before Stern became “King of All Media” — when he was still just the clown prince of it. It’s not like the Stern comments rise to the level of Trump’s comments on the Billy Bush tape. There Trump isn’t just crude, he’s felonious.
Of the less egregious Stern dialogue, the thing that most disturbs GOPers who feel their party represents the sanctity of the family, is the candiate’s casual response to Stern objectifying Trump’s daughter Ivanka. In the 2004 interview, Stern asks Trump if he can call Ivanka “a piece of ass.” Trump consents — at least he doesn’t object — saying “yeah” and singing Ivanka’s praises. The real problem is that Stern is trying to compliment Ivanka, and that’s the way her father views it too — as though “a piece of ass” is a nice positive description of a young woman just finding her adult place in the world. Trump says “yeah” — adding plus she got all A’s at the Wharton School of Business. Pretty good for a piece of ass. Ivanka Trump was just 23 years old when the conversation took place.
