Dateline NBC investigated the 2011 murder of Betsy Faria, the woman who survived cancer only to be brutally murdered (stabbed 55 times in the neck with a steak knife) in her Lincoln County, Missouri home. Betsy’s husband Russell Faria found her when he returned home after hanging out with friends for “game night.” Russ Faria was convicted of her murder, sentenced to life in prison, and spent close to three years in jail until his conviction was overturned and he was given a new trial in 2015.
A new investigation reveals new allegations including one from Betsy’s friend Pam Hupp, who was the beneficiary of Betsy’s $150,000 insurance policy. (Three days prior to Betsy’s death, Betsy changed the policy beneficiary from her husband to Hupp.) Betsy’s daughters, Leah and Mariah Day, sued Hupp claiming the life insurance proceeds belonged to them. In February 2016, a judge ruled that Hupp can keep the money and ordered Betsy’s daughters to pay more than $2500 in attorneys fees. Dateline NBC will reinvestigate Betsy’s murder on June 4 at 8pm.
