Donald Trump‘s strenuous efforts to catch Ted Cruz in Wisconsin didn’t turn to gold the way so much of what Trump touches does. Cruz cruised to victory in the Badger State, and the wide margins didn’t suit Trump’s temperament well. In previous losses, Trump has congratulated his opponents, but this time he fired on Cruz as “worse than a puppet.” Calling Cruz “a Trojan horse” meant to infiltrate Team Trump and hobble it from inside the party, Trump also called out Cruz for “coordinating with his own Super PAC’s (which is illegal).”
Trump says Cruz is the purchased property of the establishment Republicans (who doubtless shudder at hearing this). Trump implies that the decision about who the ultimate GOP candidate is being stripped out of the hands of “the people” and coerced by “party bosses.” Trump contends that when he loses, the people lose too, misled by “millions in false advertising against Mr. Trump.” The statement from Trump’s campaign put forth a victim’s view of the Wisconsin results. It read in part: “Lyin’ Ted Cruz had the Governor of Wisconsin, many conservative talk radio show hosts, and the entire party apparatus behind him…”
