The American Greed episode “A Mother’s Costly Revenge,” features former financial adviser Paul Kruse of Jacksonville, Florida. Under the business name Yorkshire Financial Services, Kruse and his brother Jonathan Kruse defrauded 21 clients of $931,844. When their assistant discovered what her bosses were up to, she reported them to the FBI. Shortly after, Jonathan Kruse committed suicide. While in pre-trial detention, Paul Kruse made a proposition to his assistant’s teenage daughter before eventually hiring hit men to kill his former assistant, who was to serve as a government witness. The hit men Kruse hired were undercover federal agents.
In 2013, Kruse was sentenced to 30 years in prison for wire fraud, wire fraud conspiracy, attempting to murder a government witness, and murder-for-hire. He was also ordered to pay a money judgment of $897,960. American Greed airs Thursdays at 10pm on CNBC.
