In The Simpsons episode “Gal of Constant Sorrow,” when Bart accidentally deposits a homeless woman’s cart into the river, he tries to make amends. He lets the woman, Hettie, move into his closet “for a slight fee.” When the musically inclined Lisa finds Hettie she discovers the woman has a wonderful singing voice. As with many folk singers, Hettie’s voice sounds authentic because she sings from experience – and from a troubled past.
Hettie’s speaking voice is provided by SNL cast member Kate McKinnon. But that’s not McKinnon singing – that’s Natalie Maines of The Dixie Chicks. Maines made headlines in 2003 when she said she was ashamed that then-President George W. Bush was from Texas. She is currently ashamed of presidential candidate Ted Cruz. The Simpsons airs Sundays at 8pm on FOX.
Just so you know….I’m ashamed Ted Cruz is from America;) pic.twitter.com/QU39ERnAzN
