Who Are Tom and Lisa, Couple That Never Pays, on ‘Modern Family’?

On the Modern Family episode “Playdates,” while Gloria arranges a get-together with a family she thinks her family has a lot in common with (the father is in his eighties), Claire and Phil Dunphy go out to dinner with a couple they met on vacation. They love Tom and Lisa but they never offer to pay the bill. This time, Claire tells Phil he should insist they pick up the tab. Hilarity ensues as Tom is portrayed by funnyman Keegan-Michael Key of Key & Peele, The Hotwives of Las Vegas (Ace), Parks and Recreation (Joe), Reno 911!, and MADtv.

Lisa is portrayed by Christine Lakin. The former child actress is best known for her role as Alicia “Al” Lambert on the 1990s sitcom Step by Step with Patrick Duffy and Suzanne Somers. Since then Lakin has appeared on several TV shows including 7th Heaven, 3rd Rock from the Sun, Touched by an Angel, Bones, NCIS, and Melissa & Joey (Jackie). Or maybe you recognize her voice from Family Guy (as Joyce Kinney, Paula’s friend.) Modern Family airs Wednesdays at 9pm on ABC.
