Following the success of its live musical broadcasts of Peter Pan and Sound of Music, NBC is producing a live production of the musical The Wiz, based on The Wizard of Oz song. To help promote The Wiz Live! to musical lovers, the main cast will appear on NBC’s The Voice on December 1 (8pm).
The young woman playing Dorothy is 19-year-old Shanice Williams. Her co-stars include David Alan Grier as the Cowardly Lion, Queen Latifah as the Wiz, and Mary J. Blige as the Wicked Witch of the West. Stephanie Mills, who played Dorothy in the original Broadway production in the mid-1970s, will play Aunt Em in the live televised version. If you miss The Wiz Live! on December 3 at 8pm on NBC, you can always watch The Wiz movie starring Diana Ross (Dorothy), Michael Jackson (Scarecrow), Lena Horne (Glinda the Good Witch) and Richard Pryor (Oz).
