On The Good Wife, when Governor Peter Florrick (Chris Noth) decides to go around his Chief of Staff Eli Gold (Alan Cumming), to hire national strategist Ruth Eastman (Margo Martindale) for the Florrick for President campaign, Eli loses it. Can’t really blame Eli. He’s proven his loyalty to Florrick time and again. And the hiring of Eastman is a slap in his face. After letting the Governor have a piece of his mind, Eli sulks in his apartment until he snaps out of it and vows revenge.

But before making any drastic kind of move, Eli returns to the Governor’s office to apologize. In a remarkably cool manner, Eli says he said some things that were out of line. He asks Florrick for forgiveness with a look of deep sincerity — a strange look on Eli. Florrick accepts his apology. But seeing this rare, humble side of Eli is suspicious. “I just didn’t want to leave things the way they were,” says Eli. The men shake. “That’s it,” Eli says. But is it, really? The Good Wife airs Sundays at 9:30pm on CBS.
