The new CBS drama Code Black is set in the country’s busiest ER – the LA County Hospital. There’s little time for mistakes, let alone humor. Luckily, LA County’s medical staff includes the affable male nurse Jesse Sallander. He helps the four very different first-year residents learn the ropes of the hospital while under the thumb of the tough residency director Dr. Leanne Rorish (Marcia Gay Harden).

Jesse Sallander, RN is portrayed by the awesome Luis Guzmán. The Puerto Rican born actor is best known for his TV role on Oz (Raoul “El Cid” Hernandez), and for his roles in films including Boogie Nights, Anger Management with Jack Nicholson and Adam Sandler, and Carlito’s Way with Al Pacino, among others. Fun fact about Guzmán: Raised in the East Village of Manhattan, he was a social worker before becoming an actor. He lives in Vermont with his wife and kids. Cold Black airs Wednesdays at 10pm on CBS.
