American author Elizabeth Strout wrote the bestselling novel Olive Kitteridge, which is the basis of the HBO TV show of the same title. The wicked and witty Olive is portrayed by Academy Award-winning actress Frances McDormand (Fargo). She lives in New England with her husband Henry (Richard Jenkins) and their son Christopher, who before getting married tells Olive that she’s a horrible mother. The HBO series is nominated for 13 Emmy Awards. The Emmys will be broadcast live on Sunday, September 20 (8pm, Fox).
The Pulitzer Prize-winning Strout is about to release her next novel, My Name Is Lucy Barton. The protagonist of My Name Is Lucy Barton is slowly recovering in the hospital from an operation when her mother, whom Lucy hasn’t seen for several years, comes to visit. My Name Is Lucy Barton will be released in January 2016.
