FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi tore the internal collateral ligament of his left knee in a match on Saturday against overmatched Las Palmas. Barcelona squeaked by with a 2-1 win. The club reports Messi is expected to miss seven to eight weeks. Messi has won the Ballon d’Or four times and was off to a brilliant La Liga start with three goals in the first four matches.
Barca has the luxury of maintaining the world class attacking services of forwards Luis Suarez and Neymar, standout stars of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. The MCL (or medial collateral ligament) keeps the shinbone in place. Suarez and Neymar will try to keep FC Barcelona in place during Messi’s absence.
