Do you like heights? Old buildings? Can you speak Catalan? Are you happy in your own company? Need some peace and quiet? If so, a medieval sanctuary in Spain needs you. Our Lady of the Rock in Catalonia is in need of a hermit. Somebody who is “pure in spirit” is required to move in for a year and take care of the place. The job benefits include free accommodation and an annual stipend of $1100.
The successful candidate won’t get that much peace and quiet, however. Duties include welcoming tourists to the sanctuary. “The hermit must possess knowledge of the history of Our Lady of the Rock,” and be able to “describe the traditions and customs to people who visit the sanctuary.” And forget about sex, drugs and rock n’ roll: whoever gets the job will also have to “leave all uncivil or immoral activity outside.”
