Pelvage is a combo word used to describe the part of the body — or an article of clothing designed to reveal the part of the body — commonly called the pelvis. It’s a coinage that mixes the words “pelvis” and “cleavage” to come up with “pelvage.” There are uglier words in the language, but not many. However, the thing pelvage describes can be the opposite of ugly, such as in a recent Mario Testino photo of supermodel Gisele Bundchen modeling a pair of thigh high boots by Stuart Weitzman. You want to see hips, you got ’em.
Pelvage, in fashion circles, is currently replacing “side boob” as the cutting edge fashion statement. Pelvage is taking the thigh slit to a new level — or, literally, a new height. Less literally, many fashionistas think it takes the slit to a new low.
