Queen Elizabeth had her Sovereign Grant — essentially her salary — renegotiated in 2011. She got a good deal. In both 2012 and 2013, the Queen received $47.2 million to support her official duties. In 2014, the figure leapt to $61 million.
To put the Queen’s compensation in perspective, only six global CEOs made more in 2014. David Zaslav of Discovery Communications must also have a palace to maintain — he topped the list at $156 million! He was followed by Mario Gabelli ($88 million) of Gamco Investors, Microsoft’s Satya Nadella ($84 million), Oracle’s Larry Ellison ($67 million), Lion’s Gate Entertainment’s Jon Feltheimer ($63 million) and Basic Energy Services Inc’s T.M. Patterson ($63 million). All men on the list, except for the Queen. The top woman CEO appearing on the highest-paid list is Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer at $42 million.
