Oscar-winning film composer James Horner, whose music could be heard on movies as diverse as A Beautiful Mind, Titanic, Apollo 13, and Aliens, has died in a plane crash, reports CBS. A light engine aircraft registered to the 61-year old crashed north of Santa Barbara on Monday, killing the sole occupant, later identified as Horner.
Horner won the Academy Award for the lush, romantic score he wrote for James Cameron’s Titanic, including the Celine Dion song “My Heart Will Go On,” which for several weeks in 1997 was unavoidable as the movie’s iceberg. Equally comfortable in a range of genres, Horner composed music for more than 150 movies, including Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Commando, Legends of the Fall, Glory, and Braveheart.
