Actress Rachel McAdams (Mean Girls, Wedding Crashers, The Notebook) will star in the new season of True Detective, which returns to HBO on June 21. She’s playing a California cop named Ani Bezzerides. A character very different from the roles McAdams usually plays. “I love that she’s not the girlfriend or the wife,” McAdams told Marie Claire. “She doesn’t really care what everyone thinks; she feels no responsibility for other people’s feelings. She’s not trying to be charming, which isn’t always the case with a leading lady.”
McAdams has a number of projects in queue. She’ll play a Boston Globe reporter investigating the Catholic church sex-abuse scandal in Spotlight with Mark Ruffalo and Michael Keaton. But in keeping with the formula she may not love, McAdams will play the ex-girlfriend to Bradley Cooper in Aloha and the wife of Jake Gyllenhaal in the boxing drama Southpaw. McAdams is on the cover of the June issue of Marie Claire.
