On Season 4 of Veep, Selina Meyer (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) is the new President of the United States. While she makes her first major speech as president to Congress, her Chief of Staff Amy Brookheimer (Anna Chlumsky) meets with ruthless political operative Bill Ericsson. In season 3, Ericsson was the campaign manager on the Thornhill campaign. He says he just wants to “say a friendly hello in an unfriendly way.” Mission accomplished.
Ericsson is portrayed by Diedrich Bader. He’s best known for his TV role as Oswald Lee Harvey on The Drew Carey Show and his film roles in Office Space (Lawrence the neighbor) and Napoleon Dynamite (Rex). In real life, Bader knows something about politics. His father William B. Bader was US Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs (1999-2001), and his paternal great-grandfather was Edward Lawrence Bader who was the mayor of Atlantic City (1920-1927). Veep airs Sundays at 10:30pm on HBO.
