Country singing sensation Tim McGraw is headlining a Sandy Hook benefit concert on July 17 at 8pm. According to BearingArms.com, “The money raised will make it harder for citizens to acquire and carry guns.” McGraw has had to publicly defend his position and decision to perform at the concert. “I saw firsthand how the Sandy Hook tragedy affected families and I felt their pain,” he said.
Gun advocates are not impressed with McGraw’s sentiment. Gina Thornton Roberts wrote on Facebook: “What a douche little Timmy is… see Tim… see Tim’s fading celebrity just go warp speed into oblivion. Move to England already.” The England reference is a nod to the time Dixie Chicks lead singer Natalie Maines criticized President Bush in 2003 for starting the Iraq War. Dixie Chicks continue to make music but “They were never accepted back into the country music fold, and have faded from prominence.”
