Connie Hoagland worked at a daycare center in the East County neighborhood of San Diego. One day, after work, she got into her pickup truck not knowing there was a pipe bomb affixed to it. When she started the engine, the bomb exploded. She was seriously injured, rushed into surgery and treated for severe burns. While being treated, the police found another pipe bomb near Connie’s home. No one could figure out who would want to kill a 52-year-old suburban mother of three.
Turns out Connie’s husband Larry did. Court records showed the Hoaglands filed for bankruptcy. The couple was $500,000 in debt and trying to avoid foreclosure on their home, according to the documents. And on top of their deep debt, Larry was having an affair with his high school sweetheart. Dateline NBC will air a report regarding the attempted murder case on April 17 at 9pm.
