Ashanti and rapper Nelly dated for 10 years but kept their relationship “close to the vest.” Now Ashanti is going public about their breakup. She said on The Meredith Vieira Show, “I think sometimes when people have their own insecurities it allows them to act out of character. I’ve been betrayed,” said the “Foolish” singer. Without giving details or naming names, Ashanti said, “I’m not a big fan of people being cowards.”
Ashanti is currently working on a film called Stuck with Giancarlo Esposito (Gus on Breaking Bad) and Amy Madigan (Uncle Buck, Field of Dreams). It’s about a group of New Yorkers who get stuck together on a locked subway car. It’s based on the musical play by Riley Thomas. Oh, and she has a new album out, too. It’s called Braveheart, and it features the single “Early in the Morning” with French Montana. It’s a new morning, apparently, for Ashanti–and her brave heart is telling her to own her past.
