A powered alcohol product called Palcohol has gained approval from the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau. One of the freeze-dried alcohol packages can make a standard mixed drink when five ounces of liquid are added. Palcohol comes in a variety of flavors – vodka, rum, cosmopolitan, mojito, lemon drop and margarita.
Palcohol founder Mark Phillips said he came up with the idea after hiking one day. “He wanted a way to enjoy alcoholic drinks after hiking or other activities without having to lug around heavy bottles.” The ATB’s evaluation is based on whether the label accurately reflects what’s in the product. “Potential for abuse isn’t grounds for us to deny a label,” said bureau spokesman Tom Hogue.
