Keen Home has developed the Smart Vent which retrofits existing floor, wall and ceiling air vents. The vents are wirelessly connected so a homeowner can via smartphone or tablet regulate airflow in rooms too hot, too cold or not in use for most of the day. The idea is based on the notion that “you wouldn’t use one light switch to control all the lights in your home. So, why are we still using a single thermostat to control a home’s heating and cooling needs?”

The creators of Keen Home, three tech savvy New Yorkers (Ryan Fant, Nayeem Hussain, and mechanical engineer Will McLeod) are accepting pre-orders now for $145. They already got $1.52 million in seed funding in October, so you might ask what are they doing on Shark Tank. But as one of the investors in Keen Home, Stephen Plumlee of R/GA Ventures, explains: “We see the Smart Vent as the launchpad for a suite of products and services that will inspire and excite consumers with convenient ways to reduce energy consumption and monitor their homes.”
