Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) signed a multi-fight deal with former WWE wrestler Phil “CM Punk” Brooks. Since Brooks doesn’t have any professional mixed martial arts fighting experience, he won’t be thrown to the wolves right away. UFC president Dana White says Brooks will first “fight a guy who is 1-0, 1-1, 2-1 – something like that.”
Who Brooks’ first fight will be against and when has not yet been announced but UFC’s Cathal Pendred (15-3-1) thinks/hopes it’ll be him. He tweeted: “This punk is going to be ‘one & done in the UFC. It looks like I will be that one. #JustWonTheLottery.” Pendred’s fans aren’t convinced he can beat “the punk.” Plus, as John Douglas points out: “The sad thing about it is that Punk will get more money to lose than Pendred will get to win.” True enough. As Brooks explained when he announced that he’ll be joining the UFC: “This is very much a business as well as fighting… It’s not all about the money, but it’s also nice to get paid.”
