HBO will air the first fully-authorized documentary of Kurt Cobain, Montage of Heck, in 2015. Who authorized it? His daughter, Frances Bean Cobain. She executive produced it, too. She calls the film “an intense yet wonderful examination of Kurt’s life and art.”
Director Brett Morgen, who worked on HBO’s Rolling Stones documentary Crossfire Hurricane, had the family’s blessing and was given access to Cobain’s personal archives of artwork (oil paintings, sculptures) and never-before-seen home movies. Morgen said what he found in the archives has helped “paint an intimate portrait of an artist who rarely revealed himself to the media.”
