Gabrielle Union wrote an essay in Cosmopolitan about the series of celebrity nude photos (some include her) that were leaked. She found out about ‘the fappening’ while on her honeymoon. She had wed NBA basketball star Dwyane Wade the day before. Union and Wade tried desperately to keep their wedding as private as possible – they asked that guests leave their phones and cameras at home. It was a tall order, but she seemed to have succeeded. The only wedding photos released to the media were pre-approved by Union and Wade.
In the essay, Union labels the photo hacking “a targeted attack, a hate crime against women.” She is the first celebrity to publicly question Apple’s responsibility in the security breach. “Apple has said the celebrity accounts were compromised by a targeted attack…that iCloud was not to blame. I’m not so sure…”
