Yes, divorce papers filed by Matt Lauer’s wife Annette Roque Lauer reveal that she accused the popular morning newsman of “cruel and inhumane” treatment. (Gotta love lawyers.) But the thing is, those papers–which are hot on the Internet right now, thanks to a Radar Online story–were filed in 2006. (If you want to try to look at the legal docs, they are posted here, but the National Enquirer background makes it pretty tough reading.) Ms. Lauer also accused her husband of favoring personal interests over his family. And he was “extremely controlling.” She was not allowed to make “even the smallest decisions without his approval, including, but not limited to, decisions regarding finances, travel plans, decorating the parties’ homes.” Note plural homes–Lauer is one busy guy!
Ms. Lauer was seven months pregnant when she filed, with a five-year-old and a two-year-old at home(s). The divorce papers were withdrawn just three weeks after they were submitted and five weeks later the Lauers had their third child. The Lauers recently celebrated their 16th wedding aniversary, with the almost-divorce marking the halfway point. Allegedly Matt Lauer dictated all the plans for the celebration!
