Mandarin, to be exact. The Facebook CEO taught himself the language well enough to give a public Q&A in Chinese at Tsinghua University in Beijing. He was pleased with how it went, and posted on–wait for it–Facebook that they talked about “connecting the world, Internet.org, innovation and the early days of Facebook.” He had to talk about the latter–he was speaking at a university! Every student in the audience had dreams of pulling a Zuckerberg while still in school.
Zuckerberg was reportedly inspired by his wife to learn Chinese. But a man as smart and complex as Mark Zuckerberg probably has multiple reasons for doing anything. Here’s one good reason a competitive guy like Zuckerberg might be taking the Chinese challenge. Fellow Internet mogul and Chinese Alibaba founder Jack Ma speaks English like it’s his first tongue. And, well, Ma’s IPO was bigger.
