Documentary filmmaker Laura Poitras and reporter/entrepreneur Glenn Greenwald traveled to Hong Kong to meet several times with Edward Snowden, the former NSA contractor who leaked classified information regarding the secretive agency. Poitras filmed their meetings and created Citizenfour (with the help of executive producer Steven Soderbergh), a documentary that will be released October 24, 2014. Citizenfour refers to the name listed on the anonymous encrypted emails she received: Citizenfour claimed to have evidence of illegal covert surveillance programs run by the NSA.
Andy H on imdb summed up Citizenfour: “Although it didn’t provide very much ‘new’ information to those already familiar with the events of last year (other than the revelation about a second whistle-blower at the end), this documentary puts together many elements previously made public…in a contiguous time-frame, so that anyone not immediately familiar with the subject matter could fully understand both the time-line of events and the impact of ‘Snowdengate’.” There’s also a music bonus to the film: the soundtrack includes the songs Ghosts I and Ghosts III by Nine Inch Nails.
