Actress Debra Messing of Will & Grace fame broke up with her Smash co-star Will Chase after nearly three years of dating. Chase played Messing’s romantic interest on the NBC musical drama Smash — the Steven Spielberg-produced glitzy spectacular that “drove viewers mad as it crashed–after a promising start–on the treacherous rocks of ballooning costs, plot confusion (absurdity?) and high ambitions.” Smash was cancelled in 2013.
Messing and Chase kept dating while transitioning into new roles on new shows. Messing is now starring in the new NBC series The Mysteries of Laura, which has been getting mixed reviews, and Chase has had a recurring role on ABC’s musical drama, Nashville, since spring 2014.
