The Dude Abides. And still drinks White Russians. After the Lincoln MKC commercial with Matthew McConaughey, now we have another iconic actor shilling consumer goods. His Dudeness Jeff Bridges reprises his most famous role, sort of, in a short film/long commercial for Kahlua. Sadly, it isn’t directed by the Coen Brothers, and although it’s set in Mexico, it doesn’t feature a Spanish version of “Hotel California” by the Eagles. It does, however, have a bearded, rumpled Jeff Bridges at a bar and drinking a Caucasian, telling a long, rambling shaggy-dog story about a youthful misadventure.
Much like the Coen Brothers films, the story is long on character and short on common sense. A younger version of Bridges/El Duderino drives through the desert, finds a buried briefcase, almost falls foul of Mexican gangsters, and is saved by a Cosmonaut. The Big Lebowski had a lot of oddities, so this is probably okay, and in any event, it’s good to know Bridges is still out there takin’ her easy for all us sinners.
