Movie star Matt Damon and his Water.org co-founder Gary White went on Squawk Box telling the CNBC show that 2.5 billion people don’t have a working toilet. The pair are pitching their Water.org relief operation, which seeks to bring clean water and sanitary living conditions to people across the globe. “We’re looking for institutional investors, but we’re also looking for brain power,” said Damon. Water.org hopes to match big money with engineering solutions.
The star power and the simplicity of the message–everyone understands the necessity of clean water–is winning over institutions and brain power. And in the case of Bill Gates, both. Gates and The Fault In Our Stars author John Green–new pals in reducing what Green calls “world suck”–are retweeting water.org’s message, and matching fundraising efforts.
Lack of safe @water + sanitation hinder progress in education, health, equality, human rights + economic development. pic.twitter.com/OZJKQSf63L
