At this point nearly every major (and not so major) Hollywood talent has been rumored interested in being in True Detective (or “circling” a role as they say in LA, like an airplane waiting to land or a shark waiting to bite). Brad Pitt was in, then he was out. Christian Bale said “no” (question: was the part not shouty enough?) Now after Colin Farrell and Taylor Kitsch, there’s a new name on the list, and it’s really out of left field: Vince Vaughn. Really? The star of Couples Retreat and The Internship?
Mind you, maybe it isn’t a terrible idea. Before his McConaissance Matthew McConaughey was seen as likable but lightweight star of romantic comedies. Is it time for Vaughn to make a comeback? A Vaughnback? That would be so money.
