Rep. Paul Ryan is gloating about having predicted America’s declining standing as a world power. Ryan, who was Mitt Romney’s running mate on the 2012 GOP presidential ticket, said Romney was right in outing Russia as the US’s biggest enemy. Ryan cites Russia’s subsequent activity in Eastern Ukraine and its annexation of Crimea (in which no Americans were injured) as evidence of Russia’s threat to the US.
“If America chooses not to lead, if America chooses to withdraw and lose its standing in the world, then bad things are going to happen,” Ryan told Business Insider. Ryan said with the Obama administration in constant reaction mode, a “vacuum is created and is going to be filled by those who do not share our interests.” Paul Ryan’s new book, The Way Forward: Renewing the American Idea, is out this week.
