During an interview with Rolling Stone, Small Town and Pink Houses singer John Mellencamp said he could never live in New York City. “I’m too sensitive to live there,” he said. “I can’t see poor people. I can’t see the suffering.” Although there are poor people and suffering in the state of Indiana, too (15.6% poverty rate), Mellencamp apparently can’t see the poor people and the suffering from his lakefront mansion nestled on a 65-acre estate outside Bloomington, Indiana.
A source told People magazine, distance was the cause of Mellencamp’s breakup with movie star Meg Ryan (When Harry Met Sally…, You’ve Got Mail, Sleepless In Seattle). After a three-year long-distance relationship (Ryan lives in New York), they called it off.
