Film producer Charles Belk was in LA to attend a pre-Emmys party when he was handcuffed and detained for six hours by Beverly Hills cops. The police were looking for a bank robber. Mr. Belk is not a bank robber.
“I get that the Beverly Hills Police Department didn’t know that I was a well educated American citizen that had received a B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Southern California, an MBA from Indiana University … and an executive leadership certificate from Harvard Business School,” Belk wrote on Facebook about his arrest. “Hey, I was ‘tall,’ ‘bald,’ a ‘male’ and ‘black,’ so I fit the description.” In a statement the Beverly Hills Police Deparment said it “deeply regrets the inconvenience to Mr. Belk and has reached out to him to express those regrets and further explain the circumstances.”
