You wouldn’t think a 6’4” major league baseball player would be an easy target for taunting, but he is. The 31-year-old outfielder for the San Francisco Giants and all-around nice guy, Hunter Pence, is the subject of colorful visual taunts from a bunch of Mets fans. Young men hold handwritten signs with silly jabs like “Hunter Pence can’t parallel park”, “Hunter Pence likes The Godfather 3″ and “Hunter Pence prefers baths.”
The signs aren’t affecting Pence’s performance: he’s batting .289 with 15 home runs and 49 RBI on the year, but they are having an effect across the nation among MLB fans. Some fans love the creativity, some are befuddled “what’s the reference to parallel parking all about?” tweeted one. The MLB Fan Cave doesn’t have an answer to that question but the account continues to post each and every photo of the Mets fans carrying the brilliantly harmless signs. So smart, one wonders if the Pence posters aren’t a marketing campaign launched by the Major Baseball League.
