The French see beauty everywhere. And it’s not just skin deep. Now the French supermarket giant Intermarché is fighting to end the terrible prejudice against fruits and vegetables that don’t immediately please the eye. Just because an eggplant looks like a car wreck doesn’t mean it’s not delicious inside. And the food purveyor is tired of taking a financial bath on tomatoes that don’t look lovely, especially when real gourmands know that a funky looking tomato will treat the tongue just like a beautiful one–it’ll probably even taste better.
So don’t be so quick to judge “the Grotesque Apple, the Ridiculous Potato, the Hideous Orange, the Failed Lemon, the Disfigured Eggplant, the Ugly Carrot, and the Unfortunate Clementine,” says Intermarché. In a video called “Inglorious Fruits and Vegetables,” Intermarché encourages people to look beyond the skin, the bumps and the bruises. Have an open mind–don’t let good fruit go to waste!
