Think the breastfeeding selfie trend is something just for your Instagram friends to share with each other? Well, recently famous mamas have jumped on board the train and have started sharing their breastfeeding selfies with their hordes of followers from around the world. Gwen Stefani is the most recent celebrity to join the growing ranks of famous mommies that aren’t afraid to (literally) show it. The most recent Instagram pic from the fashion mogul and pop star shows Stefani breastfeeding her 5-month-old son Apollo Bowie Flynn, beside a stunning mountainous landscape in the midst of Switzerland.
Normally, this would be a non-issue but in past months as breastfeeding photos have surfaced they’ve been met with nasty comments, backlash and “mom-shaming” from people around the world on the web. In response to this unwarranted opposition, celebrities, news organizations and moms all over the world have created campaigns and safe forums to discuss all forms of nursing without judgment and criticism. Actress Jaime King (of Sin City) was one of the first to share an intimate photo and a supportive message to all moms: “#JamesKnight is now 8 months old! These are the moments a mother lives for. Breastfeeding should not be taboo- and bottle feeding should not be judged- it’s ALL fun for the whole family :)” That’s a message we can all get behind.
