Oliver Willis is a political blogger. He’s also listed as a research fellow at Media Matters for America, the nonprofit organization that monitors, analyzes and attempts to correct conservative misinformation in the US media. A self-proclaimed “liberal bomb thrower since 2000,” Willis also blogs for The Daily Banter and (wait for it) The Huffington Post. He’s a progressive who once asked President Obama if he was one too (Obama said he was, but that so was Abraham Lincoln, a Republican). Willis’ usual suspects are easy targets (Sarah Palin “America’s Idiot”, Michele Bachmann “right-wing space cadet”) and his language is decisively simple. He favors the word stupid: his blog “Like Kryptonite to Stupid” features articles like “Liberal Elitism? No. Some People Are, Sadly, Stupid,” and his misspelled tweet “I Hate Conservatism, its (sic) so dumb” turned him into comedy gold on “The Right Sphere.”
What’s the impetus for Willis to create and relentlessly feed hashtags like #GOPBenghaziQuestions (mocking the investigation as tedious)? Maybe it was the two years he spent as a loan processing assistant at Mortgage Master, one of the largest privately owned lenders founded by Leif Thomsen, a financial supporter of the Mitt Romney presidential campaign, which Willis described as dishonest and ridiculous.
