In the New Girl episode “Sam, Again,” Jess (Zooey Deschanel) applies for a job at a progressive new school. She’s hopeful about her chances until she finds out that the principal is dating her ex-boyfriend Sam (David Walton). Meanwhile, back at the loft, Schmidt quarantines his ill roommate Nick so he himself doesn’t get sick before a big presentation.
The principal standing — potentially — in Jess’s way is portrayed by Lucy Punch. The Londoner is known for her roles in the films Into the Woods (Lucinda), Cake (Nurse Gayle), Bad Teacher (Amy Squirrel), and Dinner for Schmucks (Darla), among others. Punch is also recognized for her role on the 2007 sitcom The Class (Holly Ellenbogen), which also launched the careers of Lizzy Caplan (Masters of Sex) and Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Modern Family). New Girl airs Tuesdays at 8pm on FOX.
