Two former First Ladies, Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama, jumped on the soccer fan frenzy surrounding the U.S. Women’s National Team as it attempts to win its third consecutive World Cup. Both former First Ladies used the team’s success to amplify political aims.
Clinton called the team “my heroines” and referenced how the players are not only winners and competitors on the pitch, but off field as well: “They’ve won medals, trophies, AND equal pay. My heroines!
