Reality TV star Kaitlyn Bristowe is best known for competing on the The Bachelor (Season 19 with Chris Soules) and starring on The Bachelorette (Season 11), where she got engaged to contestant Shawn Booth.
After splitting with Booth, Bristowe competed on Dancing with the Stars (Season 29), and launched her own wine company (Spade & Sparrows) and podcast (Off the Vine with Kaitlyn Bristowe). She is currently engaged to fellow Bachelor Nation star Jason Tartick.
When Bristowe dropped the black bikini photo below with her dog, the Canadian star asked her millions of followers on Instagram: “Is it illegal to not wear red white or blue on the Fourth of July? Even if you’re Canadian?? Jason says yes.”
Bristowe is known for her sense of humor but some of her fans didn’t find humor in the post. One wrote: “Seems this country has given you a lot…of course you don’t have to wear red, white and blue…but posting this almost mocking the USA traditions is just silly.”
Another fan chimed in: “Black feels more appropriate given the state of things.”
Another non-American (note the spelling of color) summarized the controversy in the comments: “If your Canadian, you can rock whatever colour you choose. Crazy how a simple post brings out the claws of a country divided. Eeek.”
Note: No one complained when Bristowe shared the photos above, of her rocking a pink bikini and matching New York Yankees baseball cap, taken in Canada.
